Which law applies

We are based in Switzerland, so this site follows the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP), in force in its revised form since 1 September 2023.

If you are reading this from the EU or the EEA, the GDPR also gives you rights, and we honour them. Everything in the “Your rights” section below applies to you either way.

What we collect

On this website: your email address, when you type it into a form here, and nothing else with it. No name required, no phone number, no address.

On our signup and checkout pages at go.halftheload.com: your email address, your name, and — if you buy something — the billing and payment details needed to take the payment. Those pages are described further down.

What we don't collect on this website

halftheload.com has no analytics. No Google Analytics, no Plausible, no Fathom, no Meta pixel, no advertising tags of any kind.

It sets no cookies. Not for tracking, not for preferences, not for anything — which is also why you have never seen a cookie banner here. Our signup pages at go.halftheload.com are a different system and do set cookies; see below.

We do not build a profile of you, we do not track you across other websites, and no automated system makes decisions about you.

What our hosting provider sees

The site is hosted by Vercel Inc. (United States). Like every web host, Vercel's servers automatically record technical information when a page loads — things like the IP address making the request, the page requested, and the time. This happens at the server level, for security and to keep the site running. We do not use it to identify you or to build any kind of audience picture. Those server logs are kept for a short period only and are not combined with anything else.

The mailing list

When you give us your email address, we use it for one thing: to send you the emails you signed up for — the workshop details, the challenge, and the weekly practical idea. You give your consent by entering your address and submitting the form, and you can take it back at any time. Taking it back is not a favour you have to ask for — see “Your rights” below.

The address is stored and the emails are sent through FEA Create, operated by Carrie & Co. Ltd., PO Box 164, Stockport SK7 3WH, United Kingdom. FEA Create is built on the HighLevel / LeadConnector platform, which acts as their sub-processor, and the data itself is held in the United States. We have a data processing agreement with them that relies on the standard contractual clauses to cover that transfer.

We do not sell your address, rent it, trade it, or hand it to anyone else for their own purposes.

If you unsubscribe, we stop emailing you and keep only the minimum record needed to make sure you are not added back by accident.

Our signup and checkout pages

Our signup, booking and checkout pages live at go.halftheload.com. They run on FEA Create, named above. Those pages set their own cookies, including a security cookie set by the content delivery network before you interact with anything.

If you buy a workshop or product there, we process your name, email and billing details in order to give you what you paid for — that is, to perform the contract you entered into. The payment itself is handled by Stripe (Stripe Payments Europe, Limited, Dublin, Ireland, and Stripe, Inc., United States). We never see or store your full card number.

Purchase and invoice records are kept for ten years, because Swiss accounting law requires it (Art. 958f of the Swiss Code of Obligations).

Where your data goes

All of our providers hold your data in the United States. Our email platform is contracted through a UK company, but the data sits on US servers too. That means your data is transferred out of Switzerland.

Those transfers are covered by the standard contractual clauses recognised by the FDPIC, and — where the provider participates in it — by the Swiss–U.S. Data Privacy Framework.

When you email us

If you write to us directly, we keep the message so we can reply to it and pick up the thread later if you write again. We keep correspondence for as long as it is useful for that, and longer only where it forms part of a business record the law requires us to retain.

Your rights

Swiss data protection law — and the GDPR, if you are in the EU or EEA — gives you real rights over your data, and they cost nothing to use. You can:

• Ask what we hold about you, and get a copy.
• Have anything wrong corrected.
• Have your data deleted. The one exception is invoice and accounting records, which the law requires us to keep for a set period even if you ask us to delete everything else.
• Have the processing restricted while something is being sorted out.
• Get your data in a portable, machine-readable file, or have it sent straight to another provider.
• Object to processing you are not happy with.
• Withdraw your consent at any time, with no reason given and no consequence for anything that happened before. Every email we send has an unsubscribe link at the bottom — one click, and you are off the list. You can also just write to us and ask.

To use any of these, write to hello@halftheload.com. We will get back to you within a month, usually far sooner.

If you are not happy with how we handled it

You have the right to complain to a data protection authority. The one responsible for us is:
